Layering Candles: Create Your Signature Home Fragrance

Oct 6
2 min read

Ever walked into someone’s home and recognized the scent? Over time, a familiar fragrance becomes connected to the person, the space, and the memories you make there.

Layering candles lets you create your own signature home fragrance—a combination people can remember you by. Simply enjoy two different candles in the same room and discover how one adds depth, softens the other, or brings a favorite note forward.

At 676 Candles Co., our fragrances tell stories. Layering lets you make them your own.

Two Pairings I Personally Love

First Date + Amsterdam: Deeper Florals

I love pairing First Date from our Chandler’s Reserve collection with Amsterdam. First Date gives Amsterdam’s floral character more depth. The flowers remain, but the combination feels fuller and more rounded to me.

Hanoi + Austin: Dark Roast, Amplified

Austin’s tobacco and leather make Hanoi’s dark roast more pronounced to my nose. The coffee comes into sharper focus—a great example of one fragrance highlighting something you already love in another.

Two More Pairings to Try

These combinations are suggestions based on their fragrance notes. Experiment and see what you discover.

The Greenhouse + Forest Ground

The Greenhouse’s tomato leaf, herbs, and fig meet Forest Ground’s pine cones, cypress, and balsam. The leafy notes could brighten the evergreen character, evoking a garden at the edge of the woods.

The Patch + The Mezzanine

The Patch’s pumpkin, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg pair with The Mezzanine’s cardamom, copal, musk, and heliotrope. Try them together to explore an autumn fragrance with more warmth, spice, and depth.

Find Your Own Combination

Start with a candle you love and consider what you’d like to add:

  • Floral + woody: Warmth and depth.

  • Fresh + woody: Green brightness with a forest backdrop.

  • Gourmand (food-inspired) + woody: Coffee or sweetness alongside wood.

  • Floral + fresh: A garden’s flowers, leaves, and stems.

Light one candle, let its scent become noticeable, then introduce the second in a separate, safe spot. Room size, airflow, and fragrance strength affect the result. If the combination feels too strong, extinguish one.

Follow each candle’s care instructions. Keep candles on stable, heat-resistant surfaces away from drafts and flammable objects, and never leave them burning unattended. Layer scents in the air; don’t mix wax or add oils.

Make It Yours

A favorite pairing can become part of how people remember your home—the scent of dinners, conversations, and being welcomed.

Your signature fragrance doesn’t have to be complicated. It just has to feel like you.
